RELIGION

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Ps 119:105

We teach that each child is a special creation from God’s own hand. And, that, born in sin, we are restored to new life through Jesus. In our teachings and in our behavior, we seek to properly distinguish Law and Gospel, with Law showing us our sins and Gospel showing our need for our Savior, Jesus.

The religion curriculum is taught from One in Christ, a series produced by Concordia Publishing House. We dive into the Bible each class and apply it to our lives today. Topics range from various Bible stories to theological questions about our faith. Students begin to learn more about their faith and are equipped to be able to support their faith in Christ with Scripture. We have weekly memory verses and also look at the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostle’s Creed.

MUSIC

"Make a joyful noise before the King,
the LORD!" Psalm 98:6

Christ Little Rock students will discover a love for rhythm, melody, and harmony that makes music the only universal language. Our music program starts with the basics of musical notation and equips students to fluently read music while learning new instruments. Students learn listening skills, musical notes & dynamics, instruments & instrumentation, music history & world music, and much more. Music is taught in Preschool through 8th grade every week. Musical ensemble opportunities begin in Kindergarten with After School Choir (grades K-8) and Chapel Band (grades 6-8).

TECHNOLOGY

We are teaching 21st century learners who will be expected to utilize technology in future occupations which may not yet exist! Technology changes rapidly, but we strive to teach students unchanging principles, including internet safety, awareness and digital citizenship. Technology opportunities at CLRS include: iPads, Dash and Dot robot programming, Smart Boards, Chromebooks and the computer lab. Kindergarten through 8th grade students participate in technology class once a week in the computer lab where keyboarding is taught and projects are designed by students. Students are expected to exhibit respect and responsibility as technology is used to achieve academic excellence in ways that reflect Christian values and teaching.

REACH OUT

At Christ Little Rock School, we believe all children are created by our loving God, and that all students can learn. Our Reach Out program is currently assisting students with diagnosed learning disabilities in grades fourth through eighth. Grade levels served varies from year to year, depending on the needs of the student population. Small group and individualized instruction are provided.

Students are taught daily in the Reach Out classroom on their instructional level in the areas of Reading, Spelling, and Math. Learning Strategies is an additional Reach Out class in which students learn study skills, organizational skills, and homework completion strategies. Modified test-taking opportunities are also provided in Learning Strategies. Reach Out students are mainstreamed with their classroom for most of the school day. Loving teachers work together to provide the best individualized educational opportunities.

A formal battery of educational testing by a qualified professional is required prior to the placement conference. During the placement conference consisting of our principal, the Reach Out teacher, parents, and classroom teachers, formal educational testing is reviewed and discussed. If services are necessary, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is written and signed by the attendees, to guarantee appropriate placement and assistance. There is a separate tuition for Reach Out services, and those arrangements are made through the office.

Christ Little Rock School accepts the Succeed Scholarship through the Reform Alliance. Please contact the school office for more information on the Succeed Scholarship and Reach Out program.

LIBRARY

Students at Christ Little Rock School are introduced to the library and encouraged to develop a love for reading from the very beginning!

In kindergarten through third grade, students visit the library at a designated time each week.  During that time the librarian reads to them and assists the students in selecting books to take home.  In first grade, students are introduced to Accelerated Reader, a computerized reading comprehension program, which they continue to use through eighth grade.

Students in grades 4-8 are also given the opportunity to use the library individually, during free-flow times.

The library has around 12,000 volumes consisting of Easy books, Readers, Fiction, Non-fiction, Young Adult and Reference.  The library uses an automated system for book circulation and catalog.
